Purchase, introduction and use
Trade involves measuring instruments changing hands, and the entrepreneur plays the central role. Under the Measuring Instruments Directive, measuring instruments are subject to type approval and initial verification prior to introduction. The statutes concerning supervision during use are determined nationally.
Notified bodies attend to the type approval and initial verification relating to the introduction of measuring instruments.
The owner, holder or user of a measuring instrument is responsible for having the instrument duly verified. Measuring instruments are verified by notified bodies approved by Tukes.
Official supervision of measuring instruments is within the ambit of Tukes and State Provincial Offices while technical inspections fall within the scope of activities of notified bodies. Tukes provides advice and guidance to entrepreneurs and consumers alike.
