The Division of fireworks and explosives shall be determined prior to transport. The Division describes the magnitude and nature of the hazard posed by the explosive or firework in the event of an accident. A Division is assigned from the viewpoint of transport to explosives or items containing explosives packed in the manner in which they are to be transported.
Alternatively, a Division may be assigned to unpacked fireworks on the basis of product type, pyrotechnical substance content and firework dimensions.
Regardless of determination method, the Division is also used to determine safety requirements such as safety distances in manufacture and storage.
