Retail

A retailer is liable to the consumer for the safety and appropriateness of products sold as provided by consumer legislation.  Most products sold to professional contractors are sold and supplied direct from the manufacturer or importer.

The liabilities and responsibilities under consumer legislation apply to a retailer when selling a product to a consumer in the retail trade.

Tukes’s market surveillance uses the retail trade as a source of information. However, the measures themselves, (liability for changes, bans on delivery, bans on sale) are usually directed towards the earliest stages of the lifecycle, in other words import and manufacture.
