Mandatory CE markings

The CE marking of construction products is not compulsory in Finland — with the exception of the following product categories which are subject to special requirements:

  • Construction cement
It is prescribed in the National Building Code of Finland B2 that the concrete for load-bearing and weatherproof constructions shall be manufactured from concrete types as specified in standard SFS-EN 197-1. The suitability of the concretes to standard SFS-EN 197-1 for their intended use, after the transition period laid down by the EU Commission has expired, shall be shown by the CE marking as of 1 April 2002.

  • Prefabricated chimneys and smoke flues
It is prescribed in the National Building Code of Finland E3 that the suitability of prefabricated chimneys and smoke flues for their intended use shall be shown by the CE marking. However, earlier regulations may apply to building license applications that have been filed before 1 September 2009.

  • Smoke alarms
It is prescribed in the Government of Finland Decree on the Technical Requirements of Smoke Alarms (291/2009) that smoke alarms shall be equipped with the CE marking. The marking shall be made in accordance with the Act (230/2003) and the Ministry of the Environment Decree (1245/2003) on the Approval of Construction Products. The regulation enters into force on
    1 January 2010.
