Tukes — for safety's sake The Safety Technology Authority (Tukes) is a state agency founded in November 1995. Subject to the Ministry of Employment and the Economy, we act as the supervisor, developer and expert organisation within the technical safety and reliability. We operate within the realms of chemical and process industry, electrical safety, pressure equipment safety, rescue service equipment, articles of precious metals, construction products, and legal metrology. Our mission is to protect people, property and the environment against safety risks and to promote the reliability in technology. Our client-oriented organisation is run under three Groups: Product and Installations Surveillance Group, Plant Surveillance, and R & D and Support Services. Apart from the surveillance functions, Tukes participates in national and international co-operation and in drafting of legislation. A continued variety of safety-promoting research and development projects being carried out by our experts, we advise both professionals and everyday consumers in safety-related matters, and deal actively with other communication in our field of operations.
