Tukes starts to prepare to move part of its operations to Tampere in line with the decision of the Ministry of Employment and the Economy 11 April 2008. The Ministry decided to move half of Tukes' employees to Tampere, as part of the Government's relocation actions. The change is due to be put into practice in 2008—2010.
To Tampere are moving the units attending to the supervision of electrical products and installations and the process safety unit. The electrical units deal with the conformity of electrical products, the safety of electrical installations and equipment, and the elevators. The process safety unit supervises the industrial handling and storage of dangerous chemicals. Furthermore, the R&D unit and part of the administrative staff will move. Altogether, the relocation affects about 60 persons, which is half of our staff.
Tukes immediately starts up a project for planning and accomplishing the change. Apart from securing our continued service capability, account is taken of the personnel's position and moving opportunities, as well as the procurement of new office premises. To maintain the expertise and professional skills of Tukes represents a critical challenge for us in the next few years. Additional financing is also necessary for the project. Apart from the services to be secured, this is important e.g. in our efforts to intensify the safety-oriented collaboration with the research organisations in the Tampere region.
