Cross-country skiing

Under the Act on the Consumer Safety (920/2011) the entrepreneur or other service provider is responsible for ensuring the service does not pose a risk to the health or property of consumers, persons comparable to consumers or those within the sphere of influence of the service. Other service providers may include municipalities, churches or non-profit associations. The Act applies to cross-country skiing tracks constructed and maintained by organisations including municipalities, skiing associations, track maintenance associations, ski centres, hotels and other corresponding organisations.

Track safety consists of track design and construction, track maintenance, provision of guidance, warnings and information for skiers as well as instructions on what to do in distress situations.
