Bicycle helmets

Bicycle helmets (and also other leisure activity helmets such as horseriding, ice hockey and skiing helmets) must be subjected to a type examination. Following an application submitted by the manufacturer or its authorised representative, the Notified Body ascertains and certifies that the helmet satisfies the provisions of the directive and issues an EC type-examination certificate. The Notified Body is an impartial testing body with proven competence that participates in the verification of conformity where this is specified as necessary in a directive to ascertain product safety.

Once issued with the type-examination certificate, the manufacturer or its representative in the EEA must draw up a declaration of conformity and affix the CE marking to every helmet.
