Prefabricated (manufactured) fireplaces are fixed fireplaces connected to a flue, such as open fireplaces and sauna stoves that are designed to use solid fuel. The Act on Rescue Service Equipment (10/2007) does not set any binding obligations to use a specific standard for the verification of the conformity of prefabricated fireplaces. There are, however, harmonised product standards for many types of fireplace, under which products must be CE-marked.
Flues connected to prefabricated fireplaces are not included in the scope of application of the Act on Rescue Service Equipment, but the National Building Code E3 of Finland sets the requirement that the suitability of prefabricated chimneys and flue products to their intended purpose must be indicated by the CE marking. Earlier guidelines can be applied to building permit applications submitted before 1 September 2009.
