Fire blankets are classified as first-extinguishing equipment in conformity with the Finnish Rescue Equipment Act (10/2007). No other requirements for these products can be found in legislation, but they usually fulfil the requirements laid down in standard SFS-EN 1869 Fire blankets.
In accordance to standard SFS-EN 1869, fire blankets shall be delivered in a red package carrying labelling in white. As there are no binding provisions in law on the implementation of the standard above, other colours of fire blanket packages are allowed to be put on the market as well – provided that the product is followed by appropriate instructions for use and other necessary information and has adequate extinguishing characteristics. However, in the case of colours other than red, the labelling shall not cover any reference to the standard as regards the package.
