A carbon monoxide alarm reacts to the increasing amount of carbon monoxide (CO) in the air. CO alarms are not prescribed as compulsory for certain premises in the same way as are the smoke alarms, but it is recommendable to install them in rooms in which any fuel-driven apparatus is being used. You will find more information on the right installation of CO alarms here.
Carbon monoxide alarms fall within the scope of the Act on Rescue Service Equipment (10/2007). Nevertheless, there are no precised technical requirements for them in the Finnish legislation. CO alarms usually fulfil the requirements laid down in the standard SFS-EN 50291-1.
