For the purpose of preparing an application for an ore prospecting permit, an applicant may reserve an area for themself by submitting a notification to the mining authority about the matter (reservation notification). A privilege based on a reservation notification becomes valid once the reservation notification has been submitted in compliance with the provisions laid down in section 44 of the Mining Act (621/2011) and there is no reason, as specified in the Mining Act, for the rejection of the reservation.
The validity of the privilege expires when the decision made by the mining authority on the basis of the reservation notification (reservation decision) expires or is cancelled.
The reservation does not entitle the applicant to perform exploration. Instead, the reservation grants a privilege as regards the submission of an ore prospecting application.
