Use and disposal

The majority of fireworks users are ordinary consumers. Fireworks displays are also arranged professionally and the products used in these often differ from those intended for consumer use.

Explosives are used by blasting companies and individual chargers.

Occasionally, fireworks or explosives may fail to function in the intended manner. They may be out of date or otherwise obsolescent or will have to be disposed of by means other than firing or blasting due to some other reason. Instructions for the acceptable disposal of fireworks and explosives are issued by their manufacturer or importer.

Testing bodies are organisations whose qualifications have been verified and which carry out inspections relating to the safe use of fireworks and the design and manufacture of explosives. Tukes does not supervise the use of fireworks and explosives. However, Tukes may be involved in the investigation in the event of accidents.
