Storage, handover and transfer

Fireworks are usually initially stored in the warehouse of the manufacturer, importer or retailer. An important feature of fireworks retail outlets is their temporary nature. Bulk explosives are usually not warehoused but instead involve storage subject to the statutes on industrial chemicals. The Division of a product impacts on storage arrangements such as safety distance.

The handover of fireworks and explosives constitutes an event wherein appropriately possessed products are handed over to another company or person entitled to acquire and possess the said products.

Handover of explosives does not equal use of the product for blasting. Handover involves transfer, which in practice means the same as handover.

Owners and possessors of explosives are responsible for the storage of fireworks or explosives. An application for a storage permit shall be submitted to Tukes.
