Design and selection of equipment

The basic components of lifts for each individual site and the system these constitute is determined by the lift contractor in the tender. The framework conditions imposed by the designer of the building (ar-chitect) and builder serve as the starting point for the lift contractor in designing the system. In other words, lift technology is selected to adapt to the operation environment and conditions, transport needs and other premises such as aesthetics and style issues, comfort of use, dependability and noise level determined by the designer of the building.

Building designers (architects) reserve space in their plans for lifting devices. Requirements concern-ing these spaces appear in building legislation and building codes.

Main building contractors choose the lifts for buildings on the basis of competitive tendering. The choice calls for professional expertise, as tenders are seldom commensurate and differences between tenders are difficult to perceive.
