The ecological criteria for the design and development of energy-related products are defined by the EcoDesign Directive, with the aim of integrating environmental aspects and the lifecycle approach in product design. Contributing to sustainable development by increasing energy efficiency and the level of environmental protection while promoting the security of energy supply, the EcoDesign Directive is a framework Directive, which will adopt product-specific implementing measures for the environmental requirements for product design.
The EcoDesign Directive will be transposed into our national law through an Act on requirements for ecodesign and energy labelling of products and the supplementary Government Decree. The bill also includes other regulations for energy labelling, energy efficiency and the related inspections.
Cold-storage equipment, dishwashers and washing machines, tumble driers, combined drying and washing machines, specified air-conditioning equipment, furnaces and ovens and household lamps for sale on the market must bear an energy label and the related product statement. Energy labelling indicates the product’s energy consumption and efficiency.
Distributors or retailers are responsible for affixing energy labels.
