Tukes monitors the electrical appliances on sale on the Finnish market. If necessary, appliances are submitted for testing by qualified testing bodies. Shortcomings observed during testing that pose a hazard to safety include imminent risk of electric shock or fire caused by the electrical appliance, insufficient protection of the product against direct contact and electromagnetic radiation emission which interferes with telecommunication.
Safety shortcomings observed in testing give rise to appropriate action. The imposition of a sales ban on a product is one possible consequence. In more serious cases, the product manufacturer or importer can be obligated to recall products already sold to consumers.
