Discontinuing or interrupting operations

Tukes must be notified of the discontinuation (entirely or in part) of operations.  The structures and areas of a discontinued plant or a decommissioned part are decontaminated so that they cannot cause damage. Based on the notification, Tukes will cancel the permits granted for the operations.

Tukes must also be notified of an interruption in operations for a period that will last longer than one year. The operations must be brought to a safe state for the duration of the interruption. Tukes must be notified of recommissioning well in advance of the planned commissioning. Conditions for the safe commissioning of the operations may be set based on the notification. The commissioning may require an inspection by Tukes.
