Repeated exposure to lead may lead to disturbances in neurological development. Jewellery and its metal components must not be used or placed on the market if their lead fineness is 0.05 by weight or more. This restriction on lead is applied to all items of jewellery (jewellery, replica jewellery and hair ornaments), the materials that it is made of, as well as to individual structural components. Jewellery considered to fall under this restriction include bracelets, necklaces, rings, jewellery worn in piercings, wristwatches, brooches, and cuff-links.

The use of lead has also been restricted in articles that children may put in their mouths in normal or reasonably anticipated conditions.
