The location of manufacture of an article made of precious metals is indicated by the locality mark, and it can only be applied to articles of precious metals manufactured in Finland. Having an article of precious metals marked with a locality mark is an excellent means of emphasising the fact that it was manufactured in Finland.
A municipality must apply for the right to use a locality mark to Tukes. Each municipality grants the right to use the locality mark to an operator making articles of precious metals based in the municipality. Tukes maintains a register of locality marks.
In Finland, municipalities have been consolidated. Locality marks registered prior to such consolidations can still be used.
Examples of locality marks; Lappeenranta and Ylämaa.
